Description
Compared to the lots of what’s found in the Gorge, this area has remarkably high quality andesite with great friction. These boulders are located in a talus field just south of the start of the Gunsight Butte mountain bike trail. There aren’t a ton of problems here, but they’re all great, and the best ones are at the edge of the talus fields with ideal, flat landings.
The site is at 5,400 ft above sea level, so moss and whatnot aren't bad. Most of the cleaning we had to in 2025 seemed to be brushing off what appeared to be ash from the recent fires near Little Boulder Lake.
Getting There
If you have a highly capable vehicle, you can take FR3550 Bennett Pass Road from the Bennett Pass Sno-Park to the site. The road is highly bike-able as well. As of 2025, the rumor is that USFS might close FR3550 soon.
From the south, you can also approach from the Boulder Lake area (FR4891).
Your last option is to snake your way up from the Pocket Creek Sno-Park off of Highway 35 and park at the helipad at the top of FR3540-641. From there you can dip down to FR3550 as walk about 10 minutes to get to the talus field.
