Description Suggest change

Relatively remote bouldering off the very end of Index-Galena. Beautiful compact area with some stunning features like The Cosmonaut roof and Beauty of Man flake. These boulders are primarily the result of a solo developer so the area is currently small and a little untamed. The Pride Boulders are still in development but progress will be slow. The boulders are in a beautiful and pristine area part of the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness. Minimize any impact you may have on the area and do not cut anything green.

Getting There Suggest change

FROM THE WEST SIDE: Drive highway 2 and take the turn for the town of Index and the Index-Galena road. Continue to the end of Index-Galena until there is a 4 way intersection and turn left onto NF-63. Follow NF-63, slighting right to avoid the Blanca Lake trailhead until you reach the parking lot for the North Fork Skykomish Trail.

FROM THE EAST SIDE: Alternatively coming from the east side of highway 2 take a right turn onto Beckler River road. This road will take you over Jack pass and which point driving down the opposite side will take you to the same intersection of Index-Galena and NF-63 where you will turn right onto NF-63.

Walk about 1/3rd of a mile up the Quartz Creek trail past a single small boulder off to the right side. This boulder is the X-Caliber slab. Continue walking until you encounter a tree whose trunk begins horizontally left, and after a foot makes a near right angle upwards. Ten feet after this tree there should be a rock cairn. At the cairn you will turn about 45 degrees left, over some logs, down towards the creek. There are 2 log crossings over the creek separated by a small island. At the end of the 2nd log, hop across 2 smaller boulders to a larger 3rd. Walk downstream on the 2nd island until you encounter a small rocky beach on the west side. Wade through the creek (there may be no running water here if water is low). After crossing, continue downstream on the west bank, walking up the hill to the right of a large cedar tree. Continue straight while walking up the hill on the natural path. Once in the forest continue downstream and right towards long fallen trees. Cross fallen trees at which point the Beauty of Man boulder is visible. Hike the halfpipe log and arrive at Beauty of Man.
