Description
Located in the heart of Needleseye, the Central Area is known for its namesake feature—the Needleseye Boulder, a long, narrow rock shelter formed by house-sized boulders leaning into one another. It’s a beautiful and peaceful nook, perfect for hanging out, and home to some of the largest free-standing boulders in the park.
Climbers will find plenty to love here. Check out the old-school classic Dark Horse on the Hueco Wall, or test your skills on steeper lines like Death Rattle and Golden Goat. Feeling brave? Step up to the challenge of the highball High Heaven.
Getting There
From the parking area, walk south past the restrooms and covered pavilion. Follow the blue diamond-marked trail system, which winds south-southwest through the Central Area Boulders and over to the West Side for about half a mile; take care not to follow the mountain bike trails. The first area covered here is the Hueco Wall, followed by the large cluster surrounding the Needleseye Boulder.
