Description
Several attractive formations with generally north-facing aspects congregate above Wolverine Creek on the canyon's south side. Though close in proximity, each sector presents unique characteristics. Steep, densely compact blue stone on convex shields (with a smattering of tufas), vertical headwalls with long, mostly continuous cracks and chimneys, and long, rambling low angle slabs.
And a generous helping of blocky stone and choss, of course. It's East Idaho, after all.
At present, the Sentinel formation contains the only established and open route. Others to follow.
Getting There
Walk approximately 1.2 miles from the parking lot at the start of The Narrows. Directly across from Wolverine Tower, several rock bands bisect a timbered slope. All sectors require crossing Wolverine Creek. Some sectors may be more easily approached by walking another hundred yards to a mostly open hillside, then trending slightly back (west) to climber's right. Or hike straight up the hill through the trees.
Slope angle is steep enough that in winter and early spring months, care should be taken to evaluate snow pack stability. Slide debris has been confirmed.
