Description
Scenic climbing along the Danube surrounded by vineyards and castles, whats not to like? The Wachau region is located along the Danube river valley about an hour west of Vienna. The rock here is gneiss and provides a very welcome change from the sharp limestone that dominates in the rest of the Eastern Alps. A variety of crags are spread throughout the area with the majority located in or near Durnstein (Nasenwand, Civetta, Hoherstein).
Any trip to the area requires a visit to a Heurigen, the ubiquitous wine taverns serving excellent (and cheap!) local wine and delicious food.
