Description
Cold Stream is a small area that sits above a beautiful undeveloped campground which is shaded by towering pines, black oak and as the name implies, has a small year round stream which is a con-tributary to the near by Indian Creek which has excellent trout fishing.
The area has many small (30 to 50ft) granite boulders which sit precariously on the hillside above. These boulders are host to many top rope problems, a few sport and mixed routes and several gear protected cracks. Though the area is nowhere near a destination area, it is a great place to make a base camp that is not far from a host of things to keep one entertained. Not only is there some climbing adjacent to the campsite, but you have Lake Antelope about two miles away, Indian Creek walking distance across the road as well as Lone Rock, Tom’s Thumb, the Burnt boulders and Maidu Rocks a short 15 minute drive away.
Getting There
If coming from Taylorsville/Genesee Valley, follow Genesee Valley road until it turns into Indian Creek Road. Follow the road up canyon and watch for the sign for the campsite on your left about 10 miles (estimate) up the canyon.
If approaching from Antelope Lake, from the dam, head down Indian Creek road about a mile and watch for the campsite on the right. It will be just past some steep granite cliffs on the side of the road.
