Description Suggest change

The Janq'u Quta (also spelled Jankho Khota) valley contains spectacular mountain scenery with many glaciated peaks above 5,000 meters. Peaks such as Janq'Uyu (5512 meters) and Jisk'a Pata (5500 meters) are good for ski mountaineering and there are dozens of other peaks that can easily be climbed or skied in a day. One can camp above the uppermost lake (Janq'u Quta) or stay in the valley in the village of Peñas where there are several good options for accommodations. Several IFMGA guides are based in Peñas as well.

Getting There Suggest change

The valley is accessed via a fairly well-maintained mining road from the villages of Peñas and Suriquiña. It takes about 90 minutes by car to reach the uppermost lake from the either village.
