Description

Tai-An Bouldering is situated on the riverbed of Wenshui Creek (汶水溪) and features a variety of bouldering problems graded from VB to V11. The approach is a short 5 to 10-minute walk from the parking area. The exciting news is that there are up to 9 free pads provided by some climbing gyms in Taiwan.

Tai-An can get hot during the summer days, but it becomes an ideal destination for outdoor climbing in winter. Given its location on the riverbed, it is crucial to stay mindful of the weather each time you visit.

As of now, the area is still under development, and new bouldering problems are expected to be introduced in the future. You are welcome to contribute to the development of the area as well.

泰安抱石由台灣岩友陳烜毅開發，在苗栗泰安溫泉附近的汶水溪河床上，至今（2024/1）開發的級數從VB到V9皆有。泰安抱石區放有台灣幾間岩館提供的抱石墊，讓沒有抱石墊的岩友前往時也能享受戶外抱石的樂趣，用完抱石墊記得要放回原位，用防水布包好，避免墊子受潮。

Getting There

The area is located at Tai-An, Miaoli, which is approximately 2 hours drive from Taipei, 1 hour from Taichung or 1 hour from Hsinchu. The approach is 5 to 10 minutes from the parking area. The parking area could be accessed from Teng-Long Hot Spring Hotel (騰龍溫泉山莊), looking for their parking area 2 near the campsite with bathrooms.

開車到騰龍溫泉山莊的第二停車場，附近有鐵皮屋下的露營區和公共廁所。第二停車場的最內側堆放雜物的左邊，有一條不明顯小路，沿著小路走進去、過橋後走下山坡，可以到達抱石區。

Fun Fact

Inazuma Chen, known by the nickname 閃電 (lightning) in Mandarin, is the developer of this area. You might encounter some bouldering problems named after lightning, adding a fun and personal touch to the climbing experience. The latest addition is "Midday Lightning" (V6-8), a route first ascent by Dianel Chen and Jamie Chen while the sun shining directly into their eyes. The name echoes their shared experience, Inazuma Chen's nickname, and draws inspiration from the world-renowned Yosemite climb, "Midnight Lightning" (V8).
