El Chalten Bouldering Climbing

The bouldering outside of Chalten is a destination in its own right. Dozens of house-sized blocks sit a few minutes above town, offering a myriad of problems from V0-Vhard. The rock is a unique type of sandstone reminiscent of polished granite or even limestone. With popularity and the rock’s texture, falls are usually because of a slip or loss of tension in the feet.

There is a vibrant local and nonlocal bouldering scene here, with the most classic lines receiving daily traffic. Do your part to brush holds, ticks, and keep the beta spray down.

• As a nonlocal entering information onto this platform, I want to point out that ethics are different down here and beta is given on a more word-of-mouth basis. The alpine climbing scene has a strong culture I would describe as “go and find out yourself,” but upon discussing with several of the Chalten boulderers, there’s less of a care for this sort of mentality regarding the blocks. However, if I hear that entering problems onto this platform is unwanted among the community, I won’t hesitate to redact them. As a writer, entering this information is less about the need to spray and more about the fact that I enjoy doing this; it’s fun for me to organize an area and see a classic zone neatly arranged.
