This area is located in Saddle Creek Plantation, a small gated community 5 miles outside Milton, WV. Individuals and small parties are permitted to climb in the designated areas, but please be mindful of those who live in the area. NO VEHICLES PERMITTED within the wooded areas due to over-usage.
Description
Small area with sporadic climbs being explored and documented by locals.
Although nothing special, the area stems from a desire to climb and a lack of places to do so. First used as a logging farm, Phase Two of Saddle Creek Plantation (yes, mildly problematic name) is home to several large valleys that hold potential for small sections of boulders.
Enjoy a fairly clean area with short boulders requiring lots of core strength. Although mostly moss-covered, specific routes on the wall have been cleaned. A great portion of each route will be wet following any sort of rain or snow, especially at the top.
The rocks can be a bit rough on the hands given they have never been climbed up until 2023, and some spots (mostly near the bottom) can break off if given enough force.
Getting There
If you are using a GPS, search for Saddle Creek Way, Milton, WV. Once through the gate, travel nearly to the end of the subdivision until you come to the "intersection" of Saddle Creek Way (which now forms a grass/dirt road) and Latigo Pt. You may park your vehicle in the gravel of this intersection or continue along the dirt road if your vehicle is capable. You should see an area of stacked firewood about where the area marker on the map is located. If you drove to this point, park your car in the flat grassy area between the wood stack and forest entrance and continue on foot.
From the forest entrance, head straight to the three-point intersection and take a left. Continue about 125 meters until the road forms a small bypass to get around water-filled ruts. Just to the right of the downed tree in the bypass is a small overgrown logging path that winds down into the valley. Part way down this path you should be able to see the boulder face peaking out down and to your right.
