Description
It's been 5 years since the first hammer blows sounded above the hamlet of Fournet. A first sector was equipped and 18 routes, mainly for beginners, were quickly created. They are now the delight of local climbers, climbing courses, school outings and clubs in the surrounding area. South-facing, it's very pleasant in all seasons, and offers a safe introduction to climbing, thanks to impeccable safety, thanks to its impeccable equipment. It was no doubt the adage 'where there's a will, there's a way'* that enabled a handful of motivated enthusiasts to write the sequel... Two years later, a series of winter surveys, when bad weather prevented climbing, uncovered several other, larger cliffs not far from the first sector. The perforators were brought out and the whole project was taken over by the Alpine Club. With the help of these volunteers and the involvement of the Mairie de St Cernin de Larche, local landowners and others, these cliffs now boast over 90 routes. Together with the nearby Cirque de Ladou, a major sporting offer for the region and a first-rate "climbing destination"...
Getting There
From Brive, take the D6089 towards Larche-Terrasson; in Larche, take the D19 dir St Cernin de Larchel Lac du Causse; 100 m after the St Cernin sign, follow on the left Le Fournet and then Vierge du Fournet; park on the right in the hillside just before the houses, about ten spaces are available.
To reach the cliff, cross the hamlet of Fournet and, to the right of the last house, take the path into the undergrowth; the first sector is 200m further on the left; the next sectors are 600m further on, also on the left.
