Description
A standalone trailside glacial erratic with 10+ problems up gritty but solid large-grain granite. There's a beautiful slabby VB/ downclimb and a taller slabby side with several easier climbs as well as a featured gentle overhang on the opposite side with a couple moderates. There's enough there to get a good sesh in at a variety of easier to moderate grades, if you climb harder than v4 there's potential to add a couple more lines or make up some fun eliminates!
There is also a small boulder with a crack in it across the trail that might be lowball worthy for someone stoked enough
AND the Land Trust map at the kiosk near the trailhead shows another glacial erratic 10mins further down the trail that may be climb-worthy!
Getting There
Park at the entrance to the Granby Land Trust Katan-Ensor Preserve, hike past the old barn and gardens (note the kiosk with the map by the entrance of the trail that actually has the glacial erratic plotted on the map) Take the red trail about a half mile staying straight at several intersections until the trail crosses into the Schlicht Preserve (another GLT property) on the yellow trail. Continue on the often-muddy old forest road for ~5 more minutes and when the trail starts to go uphill you will see the large boulder and its lowball crack boulder companion on either side of the trail. Total hiking time is 10ish minutes, maybe 15 if you have a lot of pads and take your time enjoying the scenery along the way.
