Description
Walt's Wall is a fantastic wall uphill and right of the Hydrotube Area. Most of the routes start with low angle friction slab. The upper headwall is quite a bit steeper and offers a distinct change of character. Development of the upper Walt's Wall took place primarily in the early to mid 90's. The Upper Walt's Wall includes the routes from What's My Line (which climbs just to the right of the obvious moss streak) to Deep Pockets (currently the furthest right bolted line on the wall). This wall gets early morning shade, but sees an abundance of sun for most of the day, although the trees offer some shade for the lower half of the routes. The bolt spacing tends to be fairly moderate for Flagstone. Not as beginner-friendly as the North Slab, but not as runout as routes like Apache Acid or Sibling Rivalry.
Getting There
This wall is on the south aspect of Flagstone. To get there, follow the approach trail up from the road and turn right. Continue following the path around the right (south) side of the formation past the Center Wall and the Hydrotube Area. Continue past the Lower Walt's Wall. Look for the obvious moss streak splitting the upper headwall. The routes on the Upper Walt's Wall start to the right of this large moss streak. Approach time: ~5 minutes.
