Access Issue: Mount Charleston Wilderness Area Details

Description

This area describes the southeast-facing cliff band on the opposite side of the canyon of the Glasshouse and the Observatory. The walls are broken into two distinct areas which both receive lots of morning sun, making them a good choice for cold mornings or warm evenings. See the sub-areas for details.

Getting There

Park at the Robber's Roost Trailhead parking. Cross the street and approach as for the Robber's Roost. At the elbow of the first major switchback of the Robber's Roost trail, take a left onto a smaller but well defined trail which continues south and west. Follow this trail until you are deposited into a small gully. Go straight up this gully for a while until there is an option to split left (south) onto another trail. Watch for cairns here, as the trail can be hard to find, especially if there is snow on the ground. This trail will lead up to the cliff base and the first routes at the lower tier of the Sunhouse.

The hike is short but strenuous, covering some looser terrain and gaining 900 feet of elevation in just a half-mile from the parking. ~30-40 minutes depending on pace and trail-finding abilities.
