Description

Nested next to the gondola cars and the National Park of Chicamocha, Parque Macaguato offers spectacular views of the Chicamocha Canyon, which merits a visit in itself. With good climbing conditions year-round, this sandstone crag is completely in the shade in the afternoon but offers shady morning routes for those early birds as well. The routes are well-protected sport routes, including multi-pitch routes that cover the 200 meter height of the wall. The canyon was formed in a period since about 30 million years ago, with each epoch resulting in distinctly unique layers in the wall, each offering its own unique climbing experience.

Getting There

From Bucaramanga take the bus to Piedecuesta (about 15 kms). In Piedecuesta, find the bus station Flota Cachira and take the bus route to La Mesa de Los Santos. You will get off at the Telesferico Panachi Station in the Mesa of Los Santos. There it's about a thirty minute walk down the canyon to the park.

Alternatively, coming from San Gil, you can take the bus to the Parque Nacional del Chicamocha and there take the highly-recommended gondola (telesferico) to the Panachi Station of the Mesa of Los Santos.
