Description
A few miles in and mostly on the right hand side of the road is a long limestone wall in need of developing and Limestone Boulder strewn hillsides both obvious and some you have to go looking for, most of these lines are going to be in the shade. Alot of the climbs in this area are sharp, (Think as bad or worse than the Dolomite in Ten Sleep), expect drawn blood when projecting, That being said the formations are amazing and the area definitely has its own unique limestone flavor. Boulders have calved off and fallen in the right orientation and at least half the lines discovered so far have classic worthy movement. Bring brushes and tools if projecting a new line and expect to have to clean some vegetation (as minimum as necessary to complete the climb) as well as removing loose rock on some boulders. All the established lines are still in need of traffic but once they get some we are convinced that this will be the the next great bouldering area in the Black Hills. Newcastle's Climbing crew is starting a huge undertaking this summer starting to project lines on the boulders and bolt lines on the walls establishing this area more for locals and far away travellers alike. Also a guidebook is being considered once a huge portion of the possible lines are established. With reinforcements coming from North Dakota Climbing Coalitions crew in the spring. If you are climbing/projecting something please post the locations under sub areas as boulders and then the name and difficulty of the line under that specific boulder so things stay organized and as always photographs are helpful. The areas named have a theme, mainly wild west and ok corral (try to stick to it if possible). Also if you find more areas put them down under lightning creek with a name for the area and the sub areas for boulders. Thank you for consideration we are super excited about development here and will probably continue to project over the next few seasons.
