Description
This crag has good rock, fun climbing, moderate grades and a fantastic hang with a view of a waterfall (when the water is running). The crag is split by an off width crack (Dead Raven Crack), which offers an easy trad route for those with some big cams. All other routes are bolted with quick lower anchors. The short crag makes it pretty easy to do all of these climbs in one outing. Just wish it was a little bit taller.
Getting There
To reach The Aviary, follow the directions (in The Zoo description) to reach the Watering Hole, then follow the path along the base to reach Ectotherm Tower. From the tower, continue up a short slab and follow a path that traverses upstream for another couple hundred feet. You will pass below the short wall of The Petting Zoo. The Aviary will not be visible until you pass the Petting Zoo and look uphill. Total walk is only a couple minutes from Ectotherm Tower, and 15 minutes from the car.
