Description
The Boulder 81 area is a close grouping of gabbro outcrops that lie on the west side of Old Grade road. Visible from the road, Boulder 81 is the closest climbing area to Northland College, boasting just shy of 30 problems with potential for much more development. Boulder 81 offers a much different style of climbing than the weathered granite of Bob's Rock. The outcrops are composed of a very coarse gabbro that can be quite sharp. While sometimes it might feel like grabbing a bed of nails, the rock does provide incredible friction when grabbed with intention. The climbing here is generally near vertical with a mix of sticky slopers and sharp edges. Most climbs have excellent landings and can easily be protected with one crash pad and a spotter.
