Description
Windy Gap is in close proximity to Granby and offers quick access sport climbing. The climbs are on the east face of the crag and get a bunch of sun until early afternoon, making it a great option spring-fall and a good place for an after work session.
All anchors use a single point lower off with a back up bolt. Toproping directly through the anchors wears them out unnecessarily and is bad style. These anchors are not a closed system, and for toproping, you should build an anchor on your own gear.
The rock is volcanic breccia, and a helmet is recommended. Good times, good choss!
Getting There
Take US Hwy 40 west of Granby, and park in the large fisherman pullout just west of Windy Gap Reservoir. The approach trail starts on the north side of the highway where there are two concrete barriers in a drainage. Hike in the drainage about 100 yards and you will see a cairn and the trail exit the drainage to your left. From there follow the cairns that parallel the drainage almost the entire way to the base of the cliff.
