Description Suggest change

Several great established boulders are scattered around the vicinity of the petroglyph trail parking area, with potential for more to be done. This area and the areas beyond the parking lot and petroglyph trail were established around 2015-17 by John Daniels, Kris Kalisuch, Jeannie Maglione, and Ian McIntosh, who established the very secluded area test piece "El Bandito".  The potential for climbing past the end of the petroglyph trail, if you aren't adverse to walking, seems almost unlimited. There is literally boulders for miles onto the flanks of Whale Peak.  A lot of development has been done out there already and I'm trying to collect notes from everyone to add these areas in the future too.

Getting There Suggest change

From highway S-2 follow Blair Valley road about 3 3/4 miles passing The Mortero Village to a prominent fork in the road. The left fork heads toward Little Blair Valley, for this area keep right, driving another 1 1/4 miles to the petroglyph trail parking. Blair Valley road, particularly after the campground area, before the road turns east, does have some fairly sandy sections on it. There's a few spots where it could be challenging in a low clearance vehicle or for the less experienced desert driver.
