Description Suggest change

There are a lot of boulders in this 64,000 acre protected wilderness area. But many have long approches over passess, so they don't get a lot of boulderer traffic. Some areas, like the North shore of Lake Aloha, have seen some serious development by local climbers. In either case, if you're backpacking or day-hiking in Desolation, it's worth bringing your shoes.

Getting There Suggest change

There are multiple entry points to Desolation Wilderness. Many from HWY 50, but some are much closer to access from HWY 89.
