Description Suggest change

A new crag on the less traveled west side of Tumwater Canyon, home to a couple good and surprisingly steep, moderate (but short) routes. Developer Mike Steele seems to have a knack for sniffing these places out (see: The Ogre, Grandma's House, Bedrock, etc.) this one is of similar style and quality. The midway ledge is spacious and offers a great hang, staying shady almost all day in the summer. It's located directly across from Rattlesnake Rock, and the obvious roof may have caught your eye a time or two.

It's currently a fairly long walk for few routes, but more crags and climbs are under development in the area. The approach is a fun little outing in itself, with great swimming holes and beaches along the way.

Getting There Suggest change

Park at the Red Bridge/Pipeline trailhead (you know the one) that's about a mile south of Castle Rock near the mouth of the canyon.

Cross the bridge and follow the trail for about a mile and a half. About 3/4 of the way through you can follow the pipeline through an old tunnel, or stay right and follow an exposed trail above the river with a bit of via ferrata rungs (a bit risky when wet). Either way, the path becomes less distinct after the tunnel, but continue following the powerlines and old pipeline grade until directly across from Rattlesnake Rock.

Keep an eye out for a large cairn on the left, in a micro talus field. Follow some blue dots and rough path with occasional steps. The way is loose, with faint path and at times exposed. Try to stay on it as this cliffy hillside is chaotic otherwise. You'll be at the base of the cliff with two approach pitches, The Drawbridge and the Chamber Pot.
