Şahinkaya Canyon Natural Park is a stunning location featuring walls of limestone up to 450 meters tall. Most of the cliffs plunge stright into the reservoir and make for a beautiful location yet a difficult access scenario. The canyon is nearly 2.5 kilometres long and offers a lifetime worth of climbing opportunities for an ambitious developer. The park has hosted numerous recreational adventure festivals and as part of these events a couple duzen sport routes were developed. The entry level grades 4's & 5's are good enough to get someone off the ground but not worth much more than that. Some of the more technical lines (6a-7c+) offer quality climbing. The true potential is held in the nearly untouched multi-pitch faces. As of 2020 there were only a handful of multi-pitch lines of both trad and sport that have been opened up. If the difficult approach logistics are over come then this place has the potential to be world-class!!!

Şahinkaya Canyon N.P. send a lot of mixed messages reguarding climbing. There are large signs saying it is not allowed at the park entrance and parking area. The park has hosted a number of adventure festivals that featured climbing and have worked hard to develop / promote the park as a recreation destination. After being turned away our first-day with numerous conflicting rules about what is and is not permitted, a friend was able to call a boat captain who brought us to the crag the following morning. Good luck and eventually things will sort their way out one way or another.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive through the village of Türkman to the fery dock and beach at Şahinkaya Canyon Natural Park. Talk to the boat operators and see if they will drop you off at the climbing area. Most of the routes are located on the far side of the reservoir and require a 10-minute boat ride. The first sectors to be developed are clearly visible from the docks. Be sure to arrange for a return trip and pay upon arriving back at the shore.
