Description
High in the hills just west of Wolf Rock is an interesting arch with some surrounding formations hidden in old growth. The rock is a mix of dark-grey, blocky ryolite or andesite-like rock and a softer but more compact, deep red, pocketed tuff layer capping several of the formations. While this place gets the imagination going, I'm not sure how practical development here is going to be. If anyone knows a different name for this place please comment.
The main formation has an arch with climbable terrain on both sides at its upper, west end, and an impressive 3-4 pitch wall at its east end. To the West is another smaller formation tucked away in the trees, maybe of more interest for single pitch sport climbing, called the Anvil.
If you develop here, make sure you're using stainless hardware. Going forward, especially in the red caprock, it will be preferable to use glueins.
This is a beautiful, sub-alpine location with a great view. The season is also pretty short, it'll be snowed out much of the year.
