Description
The Lion's Den is a small but prominent rock outcropping located just downhill and in a westward direction from the base of Monolith. Both sets of anchors can be accessed by a long scramble to the top along the east side of the base. As with setting any top-rope anchor, the setter must always be cautious with each step as there is plenty of loose rock around. Like other new locations, a helmet for all is a must.
This area is relatively undeveloped with no real established route names or lines, but some potential. The height of the feature requires at 70 meter rope.
Getting There
There are no specific hiking trails for accessing the base of either Monolith or the Lion's Den. Park in the most advantageous location for efficient access, but please do not block the main vehicle trail. It is recommended that hikers use the primary ridgeline to gain access, as a more direct/vertical approach will be difficuly due to excess slag.
