Description

A small 15 meter western facing bluff located in the foothills west of Calico Mountain. Due to the western facing bluff, the climbing season can be almost year round; early morning in the summer or mid-day for the winter. There are 3 main routes with 3 bolted anchors which can be accessed cautiously from the top by walking up and around from either side. The rock type is different than seen in the rest of the Calico Mountains, and can be described as bullet hard but with a lot of fractures and room for fingertips. There is no approach as vehicles can pull relatively close to the base of the bluff face. This site is recommended for those looking for a day exploration trip in the wild west.

Getting There

The route involves using a series of marked and unmarked BLM off-road trails. To arrive to Family Feud, you must approach from the North side of the Calico Mountains. Four or all-wheel drive vehicles are encouraged but not required, however it is recommended that drivers possess self-recovery capabilities. To determine the appropriate driving route, backwards plan your route from Family Feud using the trails to the north.

Caution

Snakes, obviously. More importantly, seal any water sources you have as the bees get pretty crazy.

Please have a plan in the event you have a breakdown, a flat tire, or get stuck. While not far from a highly trafficked road, the location is very isolated with seldom passerby traffic. Cell service in the region is limited depending on your carrier. A few gallons extra of water per person should be standard in the warmer months.
