Description Suggest change

A gorgeous beach on Highway 1 with ocean and mountain views that offers a fair amount of bouldering. Rock quality varies from awful sandy choss to excellent sandstone. Test out small flakes before trusting them, and be wary of anything that feels sandy.

Pretty much all the landings are flat and sandy, so bring a towel! Pad is nice but not that necessary, the landings are that good. Most of the "boulders" here aren't standalone boulders but are areas of the large rock wall that separates the beach from land.

Be mindful of the tides, during high tide some of the approaches to the boulder farther left will be blocked by water. Of course, there are ways to climb over the water :) but the holds will likely be wet.

I've tried to consolidate the best and most accessible problems here, but you can find a lot more routes on this page (from 1988!) under "8.9 Garrapata Creek Area": mtntools.com/culture/bs_bou….

Getting There Suggest change

Park on the side of Highway 1 by Garrapata State Beach. Follow the marked trail down to the beach, and turn left. On the right side of the stairs there's a lot of rock that looks climbable, but will break when you put weight on it.
