Description
Bar is a town located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Southwest Montenegro. Limestone mountains, hills and crags can be found to the north, east south south of the city center. The climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. Most of the routes in the area are single pitch sport climbs. The sport here along with the rest of the country is still in its infancy and it will be exciting to see how things progres in the years to come.
As of 2020 there are about 40 routes in the area with grades ranging from 5a to 8b plus a number of open projects. Much of the development has been done by an Austrian team led by Valentin Sattek. This has resulted in quality bolting and accurately graded hard routes for those wishing to pull on steeper rock while visiting this corner of the Balkans. ( the more moderate routes are consistently sandbagged )
Getting There
Directions: Bar is a medium-sized Urban City and can be readily accessed by cars, buses or fairies. If you are flying in from a greater distance get a ticket for Podgorica or Tivat International Airports. You will likely want a car to get to the crags although accommodations can likely be found within walking distance.
