Description Suggest change

Just above the Fourth Flatiron is a dense collection of boulders with some excellent problems ranging from V0 to V9. It is not known why this area has evaded development for such a long time, although the low traffic on the Fourth Flatiron is a likely culprit. Given the 1.5 hour uphill approach, bouldering at this area is best as a full-day outing. The area’s natural beauty, relatively low summer temperatures, and large selection of problems is more than enough to make the approach worth it.

Getting There Suggest change

There are several ways to get to Pebble World, each taking about 1 hour and 30-45 minutes. Starting from Chautauqua or Gregory Canyon, hike up the trail to reach the Flatirons Loop, and then eventually merge into the Royal Arch Trail. Follow the Royal Arch Trail until you are just a couple minutes from Sentinel Pass, then look for an unmarked climber's trail (the Fourth Flatiron descent trail) on the right. Follow this trail up the hill until you get to The Hammerhead. Cut through a screefield above the Hammerhead, then continue following the reasonably well-worn climber’s trail. Once you reach Green Mountain Pinnacle, cut slightly right of the big rocks and continue up a less-obvious trail for 10 minutes until reaching the Baked Boulder. Follow the established social trail (see map) to reach all the other boulders in the area.

It is possible to make this approach steeper and more direct by starting at the base of Skunk Canyon, hiking up to Wood’s Quarry, taking the connector trail to the Royal Arch Trail, turning right to go up and over Sentinel Point, and then going up the Fourth Flatiron descent trail.

An alternative approach (that is slightly more difficult with a crash pad) is to get to Royal Arch and then continue up and right to follow the Fifth Flatiron Trail until you reach the ridgeline. Hike around Schmoe’s Nose and down the other side to get to the main Pebble World area.
