Description
Many boulders can be found in the area between Lake Sutherland and Lake Crescent. Legend has it that these two lakes were once one until ~8000 years when a landslide came and separated them. While I am not a geologist, I suspect that these are sandstone conglomerate boulders which came from this great landslide.
What is so great about these boulders? I'm glad you asked! The Olympic Peninsula is known for having limited amounts of climbable rock, especially boulders. Most of the solid boulders are around alpine lakes which require long hikes to access or long drives through crappy forest roads. This area (which has 50+ potential problems), is right next to the road and only requires 30 seconds to reach your dream problem. So when your friends and family go off to spend the day at the Lake Crescent Lodge, you can get your shoes and bouldering pad and get dropped off at this hidden wonderland of climbing.
