Description
Icebox Canyon lies just south of Fisherman's Buttress and is home to The Underworld, Toetally Broken Buttresses and the Throne of The Mountain Gods accessed by the rocky Kidd Creek which starts across the highway from the parking area.
The climbs here with the exception of the Underworld tend to be short and somewhat coarse with a bit of lichen but they do offer a diversion that is relatively close to the car and uncrowded.
Getting There
To approach the routes on the Toetally Broken Buttress and the Throne of The Mountain Gods park in a large paved pullout 0.4 miles east of the dam on the south side of Big Bear Lake.
Carefully cross the highway and follow a trail uphill alongside Kidd Creek for 200 meters uphill through rough terrain and boulders until some larger rocks come into view on the left side of the creek.
- Underworld is up the hillside along a steep trail and facing north - 15 minute approach.
- Toetally Broken Buttress is located a little further uphill past the turnoff for the Underworld and faces west - 20 minute approach.
- Throne of The Mountain Gods is reached by hiking up Kidd Creek until it levels out, where it will be found on the right side of the trail facing north - 45 minute approach.
