Description

Diverse set of cliffs off the Ward 1 / Sauerkraut mountain bike trails and the gated creek crossing below the lower Smythe road parking area. Relatively uncrowded in spite of the short approaches.

Getting There

To reach the southern crags (Flake Cliff, Shady Hollow, Shady Lane, and The Refuge), approach from the gate on Smythe road just below the lower parking area.

For the other crags in this group, follow the Grand Canyon Loop trail from the upper parking lot, take a right onto the Ward 1 mountain biking trail, then turn left onto the Sauerkraut mountain biking trail. At the first plateau, Routopia will appear through the trees slightly down a short spur to the left. To reach Retardant Wall / Belvedere, continue up the Sauerkraut trail until you see a parallel fire road down to your right and an obvious short spur trail on your left leading up to the red striped routes of Retardant Wall and the adjacent Belvedere.
