Description
A lonely chunk of granite perched on the steep hillside below the road. The Premonition has a couple quality problems on crisp salt-and-pepper granite, and stays shady in the summer months. (Sheridan)
Discovered by Leavenworth local Joe Treftz in 2011.
The area receives little traffic but it is worth it to stop the car before going to the Star Wars boulder to give a quick go at The Premonition.
There is a V8 route called Berserker that starts the same as The Premonition (V4), but heads left and straight up on an undercling crimp. This intimidating-looking climb is hardly climbed (no chalk marks) and is a little dirty. Give it a go.
Getting There
The Premonition is off of Mountain Home Road, 3.8 or 3.9 miles from East Leavenworth Road. Park in a faint pullout on the right just before the YARA boulder, a squat, white overhang on the right side of the road where the forest begins to open up. To find the Premonition Boulder, hike straight away from the road and follow the faint trail down the steep hill. (Sheridan)
There are two trails that seem to go down the hill to the boulder. Take the first one which is directly above the Premonition boulder. It's right where it starts to clear up after the steepish incline on the road. The second one begins where the YARA boulder is but leads nowhere.
