Description
The little spire is just north of Chimney Rock in West Sedona/Capitol Butte (aka Thunder Mt.) area.
Have you sent all the routes at the Fun Ship and need a new challenge? Check out the mixed bolted/trad routes at Lizard Tail.
Note that only the front spire is "Lizard Tail Spire". The taller spires behind it have been referred to as Bart and Lisa. See pic taken from the east and you'll see why. There is a ton of potential routes up to and around these spires ranging from 5.8 to 5.11 (or higher). The rock quality varies from dirty/loose/flakey/rotten to bullet hard/clean. Getting There
20 minutes. If you hike slowly. One of the shortest approaches for a Sedona Spire Climb! Head toward Chimney Rock from the Andante Trail Head/Staging Area. Take the trail as if you're going to Chimney Rock but then head north (instead of South) on a "use trail". Head toward the obvious mini-spire. T-Rex will be due east and Chimney Rock will be almost due south. Capitol Butte (aka Thunder Mt.) will be right in front of you. Note that this is the smaller spire with a larger spire behind it against the wall of Thunder Mt.
it is possible to cross over from the Fun Ship. It’s a bit tricky but will take you only 5 minutes if you figure out the best route.
