Description
The Thug Roof is a large, mostly shady roof that juts out from a small cliff band. There are several fun problems ranging from around V4 to V12. The climbing is near horizontal on large holds for many of the climbs.
Getting There
Park at the Winter Parking Lot for Wild Basin (the same as for Boxcar Boulder). Walk down the road a few hundred feet to the driveway for the private residences. Thug Roof sits just beyond and uphill from the houses. There is an ill-defined and scrambly path off to the right of the road starting near the junction of the driveway and the road. It will take you on top of an outcropping at which point you can turn left and traverse on top of the cliff and above the private residences to find the roof only about 100-200 yards away. The roof faces downhill towards the road/river. Alternatively if you walk down the private driveway and past the houses, there is an obvious trail leading up the hill behind the last house, this will take you straight up to Thug Roof.
*DISCLAIMER* I do not know which access option is preferred by the private residence owners or the NPS. The latter option is a bit easier and more obvious but goes through the private property, so be respectful and go the other way if told not to enter the property. Either option takes about 5 minutes from the car once you know where to go.
Per Connor Johnstone: the landowner said he's had some problems with climbers walking too close to his house. So the second path (where the driveway leaves the road, just sort of cut through the grass toward the small cliff and eventually you'll see a trail going over the small cliff, walk along this trail to the boulder) is the preferred path for the property owner.
