2. The south end of the First Corridor is in danger of collapsing at the base of Sophie’s Choice. A dam of rocks and soil has been built to divert water away from the eroding soil underneath these huge boulders. Please help keep this system in place until a more permanent solution is implemented.
Description
Mixed sun and shade. The Hatchery is the huge formation that sits behind or north of The Egg and forms the west (left) wall of the First Corridor when approaching from the south. There are routes on all four cardinal aspects of the Hatchery. It is possible to scramble via 4th class up the south face of the Hatchery from the gap between it and The Egg. Once on top a second rope is handy in order to reach anchors for any of the climbs on the Hatchery. Also, the easiest way off the summit is to rappel off the anchor with chain on the NW corner of the formation. The rappel follows the line of "Hang 'Em High."
