Description
The Massif du Dévoluy is a limestone range located north of Ceuse, south of Corps, west of the Ecrins and east of the Vercors.
Quiet in the summer, this area is more travelled in the winter for its skiing venues. As such, several low key crags and peaks offer a less crowded scene.
The popular spots are:
Les Gicons – 5 different secteurs with an accommodating range of difficulties. This wide crag is located above the chapel of Gicons, the 11/12th century Mère Église; the burial site for Rene Desmaison with a fitting view of the profile of the Pic de Burre.
Les Etroits – Around 30 routes at 30m high, south facing aspect and a family friendly streamside location.
Le Piéroux – A multi pitch venue located just left of the Gicons. Nearly a dozen routes of varied popularity from 8 to 9 pitches.
Les Gillardes – An amazing cliff with routes from 12 to 16 (!) pitches topping out on a plateau.
Pic du Bure – location of the famous (or infamous!) Desmaison route: a 23 pitch legendary test piece.
A tranquil, rural location with sweeping views of pre-alp terrain.
