Description
This wall is a West and South facing granite slab that sits about 900 feet above the Orson Smith Trailhead in Draper just South of the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge. It has fantastic views of the entire valley from the summit. This is a great late fall, winter, or early spring climbing area, but can also be climbed early morning in the summer. Perfect place to spend a few hours climbing and taking in the views. It's just above all the hassle and bustle of hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers below. It's a bit of a hike that takes about 20-30 minutes but most days you'll have the place to yourself. All the routes are bolted for sports climbing but can also be safely top-roped using an upper central anchor to lower down to the anchors on each of the routes.
Getting There
Park at the Orson Smith Trailhead in Draper located at 12625 South Highland Drive, Draper. From there take the main trail behind the restrooms and head uphill until you get to the Bonneville Shoreline trail then take a left until and then a right onto the Bridge Loop Trail. You will come to a turnoff with a sign that says "Cherry Canyon Logging Trail" Follow this trail uphill and you'll eventually see the turnoff for the climber's trail that is about even with the top of the climbing area. This will take you to the top of the wall. It's almost exactly one mile from the parking lot to the top of the Balcony but worth the trip.
