Description

The North face of Gunsight is inspiring to look at from the top of chimney. The three old routes seldom see repeats and so the face has been largely shrouded in mystery.

From climbers left the face is more dirty and shaded but as you climb to the right of the Oka-Bates route the rock cleans up as it sees more sunlight. The Shields-Lunceford route boasts the the least mungey of the four North face routes.

Getting There

The best approach technique is to push mountain bikes up the Pack River sided trailhead into Fault Lake. Stash your bikes on the trails right side where a stream with a slabby bottom intersects the trail. Hike up this stream and cache beer in the pool above. Weave through the alder guarded stream bed until you see a ridgeline on the rivers right side. Walk through dense Larch and Lodgepole to gradually gain the Ridge line which ascends to the tarn located below the East Face.
There are scattered cairns built along the way.
