Description

Area to the West of Entrance Crags following the old OHV (Pipeline) road, but not up it, which takes you along the West-Bounds; with trail options to shoot uphill (North trend), to the High Tops, or continue West towards the Grasslands, then cycle North and downhill to reach the Runway..

Climbs range from 5.5 to 5.11 with varying heights of 25 to 75 feet and an even greater variety of movements; with some climbs feeling like mini adventures and others like a long bouldering sequence.

There are loose trails and occasional cairns that may assist in maneuvering through formations and reaching certain areas. Staying on loose trails and in single file minimize impact to such a great and secluded area.

Getting There

Western Carousel is the round-a-bout of formations just West of Entrance Crags/to the North (right) of Pipeline Road (old OHV road) that is goes up the hill and has offerings of its own.

You won't be walking up that hill for any of these areas, however.

West-Bound Crags (WBC) area is the nearest to parking/camping. It's a strip of spaced out formations that lie below and beside the hill.

A solid mixture of beginner leads and intermediate grades are here. Shorter length climbs, but relatively nearby and offer good movement.

High Top Crags (HTC) area is an East to Northeast facing band of formations that string the mound above WBC. Some shorter formations here with the standout formation "The Umbrage" sitting out of sight, around the corner, awaiting.

Grassland Grains (GG) area is a separate area more West, beyond WBC. "Trophy Tower" is the main formation here and stands tall when approaching. The hike in is secluded and has a backcountry feel.

Runway Wash (RW) area is North to Northwest most section of the Carousel. A strip of spaced out formations that stand on hill sides above the wash. Another scenic, secluded area. Crags are more dispersed along the area buy have plenty to offer.
