Description
Sandstone Crag that was once a quarry that closed roughly eight decades ago. Blocks of Sandstone from this very quarry were used in the Victoria Parliament building. Recent cleaning efforts are slowly establishing new routes as the quarry has not previously been recreationally used. The sandstone here is not bomber, so no bolting has yet been undertaken and climbs are currently all trad or toprope. Heavily treed area that provides a cool atmosphere in the heat of the summer, but requires good dry spells before the rock is climb-ready.
Getting There
Coordinates: 49.535690, -124.805437. After landing at ferry terminal from Vancouver island, drive up denman road for approx 1.5km. At the intersection of Denman Rd and Pickles Rd, pull off on the right next to an artist painted fence and park there. Walk back down the hill slightly until you see a thinly worn trail that cuts back and wraps around to the face of the crag. The first cleaned route will shortly be seen on the left, larger routes will be developed directly in front the of the path across the pit (TBA).
