Description
The 101 Crag is the result of a spectacular team effort throughout the summer of 2019. A number of Route development 101 clinics were hosted here, sharing a behind-the-scenes experience of what opening up new lines in the chugach entail. Over the course of 300 plus hours , this Crag was transformed from a vegetated, choss pile into an enjoyable climbing area that hosts Trad routes from 5.5 to 5.12 The wall receives Early Morning Sun in the spring and summer yet generally stays in the shade due to the North facing direction of the cliff. Believe it or not, on a sunny day the shade can be a welcoming site on Thompson Pass :-)
Getting There
This wall is conveniently located along the approach Trail to the Sunnyside and Republic of Boulder. From the Worthington parking lot follow the paved trail to the viewing platform. Walk around the upper side of the lake then follow a stream up River a couple hundred yards. A tyrolean Traverse will get you across the water. From here you can either take the approach Trail to the base of the cliff or Hike The Ridge and repel in from a set of fixed anchors located a few hundred feet Beyond The Stream Crossing on top of the ridge. To find the trail that leads to the base of the climb turn right after the tyrolean and walk Downstream until you find a trail that leads up into the next Valley. It parallels a small hidden stream, staying on a bench located to the left of the running water. This Trail has seen considerable work and is in good condition making it a very different experience than in the past.
