101 Wall (Worthington) Rock Climbing

The 101 Crag is the result of a spectacular team effort from many of the summer employees of the Tsaina Lodge throughout the warmer months of 2019. A handful of Route Development 101 clinics were hosted here with the successful goal of sharing knowledge  from behind-the-scenes of what it takes to open up new lines in the Chugach. Over the course of 300 plus hours , this crag was transformed from a vegetated, choss pile into an enjoyable climbing area that hosts trad routes from 5.5 to 5.12. The wall receives early morning sun in the spring and summer yet generally stays in the shade due to the north facing direction of the cliff. Believe it or not, on a sunny day the shade can be a welcoming site on Thompson Pass :-)

A special thanks to the Tsaina Crew. Your enthusiasm to climb and work on the Worthington Walls throughout the summer of 2019 gave this fledgling climbing area in Alaska it's first real season of craging life.  Until then there had been the occasional interest from good folks such as Andy, Brian, Mike...  who developed a route or passed through. There were even a couple festivals that filled the valley up for a weekend, yet this is year was different.  This was the first summer that climbers voices could be heard as often as the squeek of a Pike or Marmont. The camaraderie at the crag, at the lodge and in the kitchen made one of the best climbing summers I have experienced in Valdez.
