School Rock has low angle routes with abundant juggy holds. It is unintimidating with minimal exposure, well protected, and often nicely shaded by surrounding trees. Perhaps a restful area for dogs and picnicking. This is a great spot for first ever climbs, first leads, mentoring a new climber, or bringing the kiddos.
Getting There [Edit]
Look for cairns Left of the trail immediately after the Castle Gates (less than 20 feet). This trail will take you down to the main approach trail at the base of Castle Rock; follow the cairns down through the East Gully. At the base you will meet the main climbing area trail. School Rock is the low angle rock immediately visible to your Left.
