Description

Cro Magnon is a huge, secluded expanse of granite boulders backed by an epic, very steep, granite wall about 70 feet tall. The bouldering ranges from sharp to perfect fine granite with triangular ledges. More is to be developed here, bolting is in progress.

Getting There

Cro Magnon is approximately 10 miles from Jefferson. Go west on CR 77 and left on National Forest road (844) on Bordenville Cemetery.

Per Chris Meacham: all the boulders are located under the Cro Magnon headwall a couple hundred yards through the woods from the campsite/parking.

Great! looks like good rock! Can we get a better description on how to get there? I may go have a look this weekend. Oct 5, 2015

Levi, the directions posted purposefully suck.... The Bordenville (site) is about 10 to 11 miles south of the town of Jefferson on Hwy 77. Pick up an Observatory Rock quadrangle, and it clearly shows it. I believe the forest road is No. 844 that you turn left on from Hwy 77. This road splits and there are lots of obscure rocks back in there, some of which you can access by car, others you can hike to. this area is located at: 39.293191 -105.654504. Jan 5, 2016

Cool! Jeff Jackson bolted a hard line up the steepness on the main face, I think in 2001. I don't think he sent, but maybe someone else has. Beardsley and QKeith put up the Occipital Brow, which traverses the face just above the steepness (left to right) and finishes with a memorable free-hanging rappel. Maybe 5.8 and fun. They put in a handful of other short moderates. As with everywhere around here, take care not to get shot on weekends! Mar 10, 2018
