Description
The Nugget Boulder is a 30 foot tall chunk of granite that has five good routes on it. The rock quality is excellent here.
The rock gets afternoon sun, as most of the routes are west facing. This is a great place to warm up, or a good place to take budding climbers.
There are (two, three?) bolted anchors on top, each equipped with rap rings. A "walk-off" is possible, although the jump may convince most parties to rappel.
Getting There
To access the Nugget Boulder, take the Archangel valley road until the Reed Lakes Trailhead (about two miles, on the right, just past the bridge). Be forewarned, this is a very rough road.
Once at the trailhead, follow the Reed Lakes trail for about a mile and a half, and the Nugget will be clearly visible on your right. You will pass through the remnants of the Snowbird Mine, before navigating northward around the beaver ponds.
The Nugget is right across the stream from the Snowbird Slab, look for the nice boulder with a clean chimney that splits the boulder in two.
