Description

The Krumbling Towers are a 300' high large outcrop of rocks that include the junctions of several types of metamorphic rocks and igneous intrusions. For the most part the underlying rocks are solid but unattached rocks are lying on a some of the less steep ledges. There is a combination of low angle climbs and steep ones on these towers. The rock is predominately south facing and out of the wind.

The black base rock of these towers is amphibolite with a migmatic dike going upward in the deep center which is banded black and white colored rock. The rock towers on the left are gneiss or granite gneiss. The rocks on the east side of center are a blend of schists and quartzites and there is quite a lot of loose rocks perched near the edges.

The top center face which faces SW may be a dolomitic marble wall. This steep face (overhanging) is quite solid with some features like hand holds and crimps.

Getting There

Take the North Laramie River Access trail to the cliff rim after a 2.23 mile hike downhill. The GPS point is for the top east side of these towers.
