Description
Boy Scout Rocks is a collection of small crags within the McHugh Creek State Recreation Area. Rock quality is variable, with the better stuff at the Main Area. This is an excellent place to take kids, or just to get some quick solo mileage in, as the routes are a meager 15 to 30 feet in length and mostly easy-to-moderate in grade. Lots of bouldering potential exists in the surrounding area.
Getting There
McHugh Creek State Recreation area, 2.7 miles from the weigh station. $5 for day use, or get an annual state parks pass. Park past the Host's RV in the upper lot near a restroom. Follow the paved trail back towards Turnagain Arm for a minute, then take a right on a dirt trail marked with a sign for Boy Scout Rocks. After about 3 minutes you will come to the Main Area, and Upper Boy Scout Rock is another 200 yards to the left and up through the trees.
