Description

This is a secluded East (edited) facing area that enjoys sun all day long. IGR is a great destination for cooler, sunnier weather.

IGR features trad, sport, and mixed climbing on sandstone.

Getting There

From Front Royal, take 340 south towards Luray for about 23 miles. Before you reach Luray, stay straight on Broad Street (340 S), then take a right onto Mechanic Street. Mechanics Street then becomes Bixlers Ferry Rd, which you follow for about 3 miles. After crossing the Shenendoah, turn right onto S Page Valley Rd.

Drive for several miles, staying on S Page Valley Rd, which will go slightly uphill. Look for the Indian Graves Ridge trail sign and turn left into the "parking" space. If you crest the hill, and then go down and see the river on your right, you've gone too far. There is a national forest style looking bathroom on the right side that appears to be closed in the winter.

From the parking area, follow the purple blazes for about 45-60 minutes. You'll reach a plateau, which is about 2/3rds of the way there. Continue all the way to you see the white rocks on the right (or you reach nearly the top of the ridge). There will be white blazes and a wooden sign on a pseudo trail veering right.

IGR actually faces East and catches sun most of the day. Great fall/winter crag. The two areas should be South and North, with nearly all the routes on the North side. There are two on the South side that I know of. Jun 27, 2013

Ended up missing the sign and hiking way out of our way when we visited Indian Graves on Saturday. If you reach a long, sustained uphill part of the purple blazed trail, you've gone too far! Mar 9, 2014

The "Indian Graves Trail" sign is no longer there. Look for a wooden post where the sign used to be on the left, about a mile after the road turns to gravel. Dec 4, 2016
