Description
This area is one of the most aesthetic in all of arizona. East Clear Creek runs through the bottom of the canyon and can flood after snow melt and heavy rain. the rock is limestone through the majority of the canyon and turns to sandstone east down the canyon towards blue ridge reservoir. This area is relatively secluded with the occasional four wheeler or small group of hikers wandering through. The weather is best in the fall with the water low and the temps down.
Getting There
From Phoenix take the 87 north until you start to climb onto the rim just after passing strawberry. when you get to forest road 300 turn right (east) and take this for approximately 11 miles. you then turn left (north) onto forest road 123 and take this road for about 5 miles until you see power lines and see signs for the Arizona trail. Turn left (north west) onto the 123A and take this for another 2 miles through an old forest service gate until it dead ends at a fence with trail access. You hike down this trail to the bottom of the canyon (about 1/4 miles. Turn right and follow the canyon until you get to Moonrise wall.
