Most of this area is pretty crummy but there's a handful of really fun problems. Climbed here a bit 3-5 years ago...anybody have any route info? I know some problems I could post but I'm not sure on name history and first ascents in this area. I believe this area was called Bierut before? Jan 6, 2012
Hello visitors of MP. The Climbs I have put on here, are problems companions of mine and myself have personally trained on for over the past two decades. Knowing of only a handful of old school lines, that were put up two decades prior to us. We have still managed to re-discover many climbs that were less obvious.
The place has cleaned up tremendously in recent years, especially with the addition of the sport park.
Personally having done every problem on here thousands of times over. I have only ever ran into other pebble wrestlers out here a hand full of times.
By sharing this place and maybe showing its local potential, others will soon come to enjoy the convenience of such a neat little playground.
I can say first hand that even somewhere as simple as a little boulder field like Melrose, can help take your climbing to the biggest walls of the world.
Enjoy and please feel free to help with contributions to this area! :) Feb 20, 2014

Anybody have info on the rock across the street by the painted frog rock? My favorite boulder to climb in the area, a couple cool routes with some variations. Or know of any other climbable boulders in Vista or Oceanside? Jul 12, 2014

There is some beginning level climbs at Calavera Lake, Oside. There is also some bouldering on private land by the Palomar Airport on Rockclimbing.com. Most of the best bouldering in North County SD is at Melrose and Daley Ranch Escondido. lead and top rope at Cougar Crag and Dixon lake.
As for the Frog boulders I do not know much about it but believe it is owned by the city? If you have problems their you should post them to MP here.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Jul 12, 2014
I still boulder at Melrose all the time. It is fun and basically a great place to work out your moves and holds. However last night I noticed a lot more graffiti and broken glass. I try to clean it up and rake as much as I can but I feel this great spot really needs a lot of help. If I start a save Melrose boulders campaign can I count on the climbing community to help clean it up with me.. Or if anyone knows how to get the spray paint off I would love to know.. The ratings here by the way are from v0 to maybe v5.. One Boulder does have a short top rope.. Mar 25, 2016
Alan Hawkshaw- Count me in, I like this place since I live about 10 minutes away. It really sucks that there is so much glass in the area now. I try to fill a plastic bag up every time we go. As for The Graffiti... Zip Strip non water base removed some off of our old apartment building but that was stucco. And unfortunately its not environmentally friendly and you need a pretty heavy Wire brush and a bit of scrubbing. Also I heard Bar Cleaner might work but I haven't tried that. Hope this helped. Spent yesterday morning here, weather was really pleasant around 7am. Lots of trash, broken glass, and spraypaint. Reminds me of Stoney Point in LA. Thanks for posting the information on routes here.

Will definitely come back since I live nearby, the location is pretty quiet and there's a fair amount of moderate problems.

For the first time visitor the topos uploaded by Joshua were really helpful (mountainproject.com/v/10865… and mountainproject.com/v/10865…) Aug 20, 2016

Friend and I went to scope out this area yesterday. Not only is there glass at almost every problem, but some areas are being camped out by homeless people.
We went to every single boulder listed and could only find 1 route that was climbable (minimal glass).
Local kids are thoroughly trashing the place. Jul 5, 2017
Place has always been Gettho as Fu€£ especially long before
The park and all of the houses were put in!!
At one time heavy gang wars even!
The glass and spray paint add to the ratings and experience. I have seen everything here from cowboys wratslin cattle to sex trafficking and everything in between!!

Welcome to Southern California!!! :) Dec 6, 2017
